World's End (Eglwyseg Valley)

The Eglwyseg valley narrows to a ford, a moor and a wall of tiered limestone — a road-end above Llangollen that earns its name.

About

The story

Where the single-track road from Minera drops off the moor into the head of the Eglwyseg Valley, the landscape closes in: tiered limestone cliffs — Craig y Forwyn among them — heather moorland, a mountain ford splashing across the tarmac, and below it a Tudor manor house dated 1563. This is World's End, and it feels like it. The Offa's Dyke Path threads beneath the crags towards Llangollen, red grouse rattle up off the Ruabon Moors, and in late summer the heather turns the tops purple. For the walk, follow the escarpment south along the Eglwyseg screes — as fine a limestone landscape as Wales owns, and oddly overlooked.
