About

The story

Lloyd George called the Ceiriog Valley a little bit of heaven on earth, and The Hand sits at the very top of it, where the B4500 finally gives up. Drovers paused here from the sixteenth century on their way over the Berwyn mountains; today the old inn keeps their fireside habits — beams, log fires, local ale — while adding two AA rosettes' worth of cooking and comfortable rooms. Walks start from the door, up onto the moors or along the valley to Glyn Ceiriog, and the phone signal largely does not follow. As an antidote to the modern world, few Welsh inns manage it better.
