About
The story
The white-tailed eagle has a wingspan approaching eight feet and the presence of something prehistoric, and on this three-hour trip from Ulva Ferry you watch one hunt at close quarters. The Lady Jayne carries only twelve, so nobody is fighting for a view, and skipper Martin Keivers knows precisely which birds are nesting where along Loch na Keal. Seals, otters and porpoise fill the time between eagle passes; tea and biscuits appear as though summoned. The setting — Mull's western sea lochs, Ulva across the water, the Treshnish Isles beyond — would justify the trip even if nothing had wings.
Our word
