About
The story
There is something wonderfully deliberate about a place you can only reach by boat. Step off the short ferry from Balmaha and Inchcailloch unfolds as a pocket of wild, ancient oak woodland ringed by the shining waters of Loch Lomond. Come spring, the floor turns blue with bluebells and the birdsong is constant. A looping path climbs to a summit view over the loch's islands, and the whole visit feels like a small expedition — return by teatime with muddy boots and a story to tell. Quiet, atmospheric and genuinely off the beaten track.
