About

The story

Four-times Prime Minister William Gladstone called Hawarden home, and his descendants still run the estate — including this farm shop, opened by Charlie and Caroline Gladstone in 2008 on a 28-acre working farm at the edge of the village. The butchery is the heart of the place, with estate-reared meat, proper pies and a Welsh Dragon sausage roll of local renown, while the shelves are stocked from farms within thirty miles wherever possible. Outside there are orchards and growing plots; inside, the feel is of a shop assembled with real care rather than a rural brand exercise. One of North Wales's most quietly assured food destinations, minutes from the Chester border.
