About

The story

Tucked away on a quiet canalside street in Ulverston, Cumbria Crystal keeps a rare British art alive: the blowing and hand-cutting of lead crystal, done the traditional way. Step close to the glowing furnaces and you'll see gathers of molten glass spun, shaped and coaxed into elegant form, before skilled cutters etch the sparkling patterns that catch the Lakeland light. It is mesmerising, tactile and genuinely educational — a glimpse of heritage craftsmanship that has grown vanishingly scarce. A short detour from the fells and coast, it rewards the curious with something to remember and a keepsake to treasure.
