About
The story
Reaching Bunnahabhain feels like an adventure in itself — a slow descent down a rough single-track lane to a cluster of buildings hunched against the sea on Islay's remote northern shore. The reward is one of the island's most breathtaking outlooks, across the Sound of Islay to the Paps of Jura. Where much of Islay wears its peat proudly, Bunnahabhain's gentler, saltier character surprises many. It is a place of stillness, big skies and lapping water, best savoured slowly with the wind off the sound.
Our word
Why Hunters selected it
Its gloriously hard-to-reach setting and quietly distinctive, unpeated character make Bunnahabhain the sort of secluded find our readers love — remote, beautiful and blissfully uncrowded.
