About
The story
Charles Bellis planted his first strawberry — a variety called Black Prince — beside the Dee in 1860, and his family have farmed at Holt ever since. Now in its fourth and fifth generations, Bellis Brothers has grown into a farm shop, butchery, restaurant and garden centre without ever leaving family hands. Summer is the high point, when the pick-your-own fields open for strawberries, raspberries, currants and gooseberries, followed in October by pumpkins and a maize maze. The farm shop keeps the emphasis close to home: their own soft fruit, Welsh meat and borderlands produce. A rare thing — a genuinely substantial rural business still run like a family farm.
